Long before I found my airplane jonze, and before I flexed my interest in still life and objet, I studied the human form with intensity. Life drawing and anatomy courses in Chicago, combined with an overseas study in Madrid where I encountered the mind blowing collection of masterworks in the Museo del Prado. Velasquez. Zurburan. Caravaggio. Ribera. These studies took place in the pre-internet era of the 1990’s. The human form - was the great communicator; we ALL are navigating our lives in decay. This is non negotiable. So how did you spend your youth? Were your battles physical? or emotional? Or the combination of both? All I can say is before the World Wide Web, there was a profound quiet in the air. Life was not rushed. For an artist, the sacred space out of thought, ideas and creation was epic. Boredom was an opportunity to dive deeper into one’s memory, one’s battles, love and languor. You could spend a lifetime with a single project. Your fingerprint was your sword.

I am attempting to illustrate my youth; brimming with physical vitality and vigor… and dissolving inside with crumbling emotional strength, my dissipating spirit.
