Little Richard is the KING of ROCK+ROLL!!!!

——-

In the early 1950’s, a young man named Elvis Presley captured the white, anglo gaze, and in turn, dominated mass media of the era. But do not for a second lose track of the birth of rock and roll; Big Mama Thornton. Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Little Richard. This is the base of the pyramid.

Every citizen on planet earth - if they are compelled to trace the roots - will find that Afro-American culture produced and/or influenced the fruit and flowers of every major musical movement in the United States in the 21st century. Rock and Roll. Jazz. Blues. Gospel. Americana. Country. Funk. Soul. Pop. Punk. Hip Hop. Rap. Techno. House. Every note piped through an AM or FM signal contains a strand linked to African American ingenuity, resilience and imagination.

A largely unknown, young quartet named the Beatles opened for Little Richard in 1962 at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany. Let us re-review the tap roots of rock and roll hunny….👑

I am a maximalist painter with a slow build oil glaze technique. Chromatics are infinitely mesmerizing; I am inspired by 1970’s comic books, Kodachrome postcards, road side billboards and high fashion editorial advertising campaigns.
